For a long time after losing Charlie, I didn't know what to do with my life. My identity had been unravelled. The dreams of a postpartum sipping chicken noodle soup, covered in vomit and breast milk had evaporated. In place, I was left with a broken, weak body, grief and an insane amount of dark thoughts.

One day, driving to run club on a Sunday, which I had somewhat forced myself to 'try and commit to,' I had the idea of running the City2Surf to raise money for Bears of Hope. Then I thought, that's a challenge, yes, but not super inspiring. What if I was to run a couch to marathon and raise money for the Royal North Shore NICU? Thus, connecting my love of Charlie with my love of running and gaining some fitness at the same time.

So, on the 10th of August I will be running 14km at the City2Surf in Sydney and on the 31st of August will be running the ASICS Sydney marathon, 42.2km, in honour of my baby boy.

The training and the run will be hard, but so was birthing and losing Charlie. I also was witness to the strength and fighting spirit Charlie had. He fought so hard, despite being in so much pain and I believe I can too. He is with me every time I tie up my laces, step out on the path, when I pick up by bibs and cross those finish lines.
